What it is
An islet off the east coast at Trou d'Eau Douce, reached by a short boat transfer. White sand, shallow turquoise water, watersports concessions, restaurants and an 18-hole golf course. Catamaran day trips usually combine it with the Grande Rivière Sud-Est waterfall and lunch aboard.
Why go
The lagoon colour on this side of the island is the strongest anywhere in Mauritius, and the swimming is easy and shallow.
When to go
May to November for calmer transfers. Know what you are buying: it is busy, thoroughly commercial, and at its worst when several catamarans land at once around midday. If the point of your trip is a quiet beach, your own hotel's stretch will probably do better. Go on the first boat or not at all.
Most people stay Day trip.
