What it is
Moremi covers roughly the eastern third of the Okavango, mixing dry mopane and acacia with permanent water at Xakanaxa and along the Khwai. Unlike most of the Delta it has a road in from Maun, which makes it the one part self-drivers reach.
Why go
The mix is the point. You get Delta lagoons and dry-land game driving in the same day. Wild dog, leopard and lion all do well here, and the Khwai frontage is one of the more reliable predator areas in the country.
When to go
May to October. The tracks are deep sand and, after rain, black-cotton mud that holds vehicles for days, so December to March is for experienced crews only and several camps close. There is no fuel inside the reserve, and the water at Third Bridge is real water, not a puddle. Campsites must be booked well ahead and are not available on arrival.
Most people stay 3 nights.
